Mariam's Story
A glimpse of God at Work
Mariam's mother and father are new believers in Christ. They have already had so many challenges of being rejected by their extended family for their beliefs and difficulty knowing if they can pay the rent each month. Three months ago, 7 year old Mariam started having seizures and her temperature sky-rocketed. They took her to the local governmental hospital and she began to convulse and soon lost consciousness. They pumped her little body full of high dose antibiotics, but she lay unresponsive for one month in the poorly equipped hospital. Her mom and dad prayed earnest prayers and she began to wake up unable to speak or walk. The doctor said she had a severe brain infection and there was nothing else to be done and sent them home.
Every day they prayed in their small one bedroom house, "Give us today our daily bread. Be enough for us today." Slowly, Mariam began to eat, and she started to speak again. Her legs and arms were stiff from not moving over a long period of time and slowly her parents would massage her stiff limbs and they began to move. The other week as school started back, Mariam's mother carried her every day to the classroom and sat with her. Every day she gets stronger as Mariam laughs, reads, and tries to keep up with her younger brothers. Every day Jesus shows up and gives them what they need. Mariam's mom told me tonight on the phone, "I have joy in my heart."
We are humbled how God is enough for each one of us. He is watching over the Mariam's of this world.
