Four brothers-in-Christ - Andy Crane, Kevin Feighery, Matt Frank and Doug Poppen - departed Charlotte on Thursday to spend 10 days with our friend and mission partner Pastor Nandu Gurung and the orphans of Grace Children's Home. Please join us in praying for God's work through them this week and their safety.
Greetings from northeast India!
After almost two full days of travel we arrived safely at our destination in Kalimpong. Our first day here we joined Pastor Nandu and the over 100 children from Grace Children’s Home (GCH) in a day-long celebration at a rented community center. The children performed dozens of songs & dances, many of which they have been practicing for months just to share with us.
Throughout the day we had opportunities to dance & play with the children from all (5) GCH houses. We heard stories about how some of these children came to live at the orphanage.
One of the sweetest girls we have met, we will call her Rachel, was sold by her father a couple years ago to a human trafficker for 10,000 Rupees ($166 USD). She was facing a life of virtual slave labor. In 2013, a concerned citizen heard about Rachel’s situation and offered the trafficker a profitable amount to free her from her circumstances. Rachel then moved in to GCH. It was wonderful to watch her sing & dance yesterday, and worship our God of grace together with her.
We also met a young man, we will call him Richard, who had a demon-possessed father and went to live in a monastery following the death of his mother. His ears are pointed forward due to the physical abuse he suffered by the monks as a young boy. The joy on his face as he played with his peers was priceless. Each of these children have a story. It is wonderful to be here to remind the children (and staff) of Grace Children’s Home that they have a special role in God’s story, and that the events of their past are just a small part of that journey – that much of their role is yet to be revealed.
